iPhone 6 傳減用藍寶石基板

iPhone 6全面導入藍寶石基板恐落空。供應鏈傳出，礙於造價太高，基本款iPhone 6將維持採用玻璃基板，僅高階版會導入藍寶石基板。由於高階款整個產品生命周期出貨目標僅1,000萬支，藍寶石基板廠受惠程度恐不如預期。

供應鏈透露，藍寶石基板成本高昂，每片螢幕要價約280美元（約新台幣8,400元），比傳統玻璃基板高逾六倍，幾乎等於一支平價智慧機的售價，因此蘋果僅將藍寶石基板導入高階版iPhone 6使用。

礙於成本昂貴，高階版iPhone 6售價可能高達1,300美元（約新台幣3.9萬元）以上，比先前各版本貴約五成。由於不符合市場「平價化」潮流，高階版機種整個產品生命周期只會生產1,000萬支，是歷來出貨量最少的iPhone，採購的藍寶石基板量也遠不如預期。

新款iPad及iPad mini方面，目前也傾向沿用玻璃基板，並導入指紋辨識應用。

據悉，蘋果指紋辨識晶片仍將在台積電8吋廠製造，台積電子公司精材承接指紋辨識晶片晶圓重布（RDL）訂單。隨精材良率大幅提升，原來部分分給大陸晶方的訂單，重回精材，讓精材產能塞爆，正擴產因應。
